Kerala Minister PK Jayalakshmi marries a farmer

Kerala Youth Affairs and SC-ST Welfare minister P K Jayalakshmi on Sunday tied the knot with CA Anil Kumar, a tribal farmer in a traditional Hindu tribal ritual. The wedding was held at her ancestral home at Mambayil near Valadu in the presence of thousands of people. The wedding was attended by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan and and leading politicians. Ramesh Chennithala, K C Joseph and Speaker N Sakthan were among those present.

The groom CA Anilkumar, a farmer, clad in a white shirt and mundu tied a ‘mangalsutra’ around the next of the bride and then both exchanged jasmine garlands. Soon after the traditional Kurichiya tribal rituals, The Minister touched the feet of Chief Minister & Opposition Leader and sought their blessings.

Jayalakshmi, who won the elections on her debut in 2011, is the only woman legislator in the ruling United Democratic Front (UDF). Anil Kumar (36) is the grand nephew of the bride’s father Kunhaman. A marriage feast was also arranged for the guests at the wedding venue.
