Venkaiah Shows His True Colors On Special Status

During the passing of the Andhra Pradesh's bifurcation bill in the parliament, several leaders from the state and at the centre level valiantly fought for the special status and other benefits for the residual Andhra Pradesh. One man who single handedly fought for the special status was Venkaiah Naidu, the BJP's senior leader from state. 

When the Congress' PM Manmohan Singh hinted at a five year special stats for AP, Venkaiah opposed strongly and demanded it for 10 years. Almost one year passed since BJP led NDA government came into power at the centre and there has been no confirmation regarding the special status to AP until one of BJP's central minister categorically denied the possibility of special status.

A huge mayhem took place ever since and no BJP leader gave assurance regarding special status except the Finance Minister vaguely stating that the centre is committed to accord the special status. Then all eyes were cast on Venkaiah Naidu. The BJP's trump card finally showed his true colors in a TV interview.

Venkaiah said that the special status is being delayed due to finance commission's directives and that how can people expect BJP to realise their wishes in just one year when Congress party failed to fulfill them for a decade. The senior leader said that AP can develop only under BJP's rule and that the party will never betray the state.

Venkaiah smartly dodged the question on when will the centre accord the special status and only said that he is still fighting for it and that he will make sure AP gets more funds compared to other under developed states.
